Is exfoliation for everyone?
This article, courtesy of beautifulwithbrains, is really educational. From an unfortunate first-hand experience, I hope to convey the message to as many people as I can possibly reach, that over-exfoliation is definitely a mistake. In my case, I previously utilised a manual exfoliator that was too harsh for my dry-combination skin type. Not only did the St Ives Apricot Scrub contain salicylic acid content that proved too strong for my need, its exfoliating beads were also too large. People typically go for exfoliators with beads that match their pore sizes and since I did not face any problems with my pores, the beads in the St Ives facial scrub were too astringent for me. I have now decided to use chemical exfoliators instead because they are gentler and less abrasive in comparison. However, I still do have a slightly irritated skin condition from that naive exfoliation error committed. I am recovering slowly but surely yet, as always, my skin takes quite a long time to fully heal. One advantage is that I do not scar, even if I pick my pimples, but the red-brown post-pimple vestiges take a considerable amount of time to entirely diminish and fade away. Mother has passed down wise advice that it will take time for my skin to regenerate and renew to a brand new complexion. I am personally not very affected by the situation because I am overly self-esteemed like that but I hope someone out there can learn from my lesson :)
