Tried&Tested: Concealers

ZA Concealer Perfection
Revlon Age-Defying Spa Concealer
L'Oreal True Match Concealer
Maybelline Pure Mineral Concealer
Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer

Of course I have tried other concealers in the market but I cannot quite remember anymore of them so this list shall suffice as of now.

ZA is a popular brand amongst newbies and I, likewise, began my journey into the make-up world by trying out ZA's cheap but quite good products. I went through two tubes of ZA Concealer Perfection before I decided to move on from my teenage cosmetics fancies. I used shade 2 in high school and shade 1 in junior college. The concealers were satisfactory, considering how wallet-friendly the price was and still is. However, if one has the cash, it is definitely by no means the most excellent option available.

Revlon Age-Defying Spa Concealer was my virgin product from this brand which sparked my venture into the Revlon make-up sphere. It was disappointing because the twist-up packaging became a gigantic mess after a period of usage and that irked me to no ends. In addition, the formulation was nothing fantastic either. The excess that spilled from the concealer pen was simply too disgusting for me to bear and I chucked the product out without even going through it.

Similar to the Revlon one, L'Oreal True Match Concealer created too much of a mess after some time of using and I, too, threw it away before finishing the tube. The excess that collected at the tip was too gross and I got sick of having to constantly wipe the tube clean after every single use. The formulation was not bad.

I had quite a contented experience with Maybelline Pure Mineral Concealer. I scored it during a sale and the discounted price rendered this product one of the cheapest concealers I have ever purchased. I like the formulation and the doe-foot applicator way more than the brushes that came with Revlon's and L'Oreal's concealers. I only utilise this concealer for my undereyes. The staying power is very shabby but I shall not whine too much given its super low price. However, although it was overall a rather pleasant option, I will not re-purchase as I do not mind splurging more cash to get a HG concealer.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer has got to be, hands-down, the best-smelling concealer in the market. I love the fruity scent that one can catch a quick whiff of during application process. The formulation is awesome, the product is oil-free and dermatologist-tested. These two aspects illustrate that the concealer is perfect for acne-prone or oily skin types. A note of caution, it is unwise to cake the product on because the concealer does not layer well so please bear in mind that a little goes a really long way.

REVIEW: Smith's Strawberry Lip Balm

This is my current utmost favourite lip balm! I love anything strawberry-scented and this product is no exception. It moisturises my lips very well but it is definitely not medicated like Carmex. I adore the packagings of Smith's lip balms and I am looking forward to purchasing the famous Rosebud Salve soon. However, I prefer the tube versions, mainly for convenience issues, over the metal cans despite the latter having a more vintage outlook.

P.S. If you cannot already figure out, I harbour a weakness for lip balms and am steadily expanding my collection of them.

Tried&Tested: Mascaras

Maybelline XXL Mascara
Clinique High Impact Mascara
RMK Extra Deep W Mascara
Chanel Inimitable Mascara
Fairy Drops Mascara

These are some of the mascaras that I have tried in my life. There could potentially be more but nothing surfaces to mind as of now. I must start off by stating that I prefer dryer mascara formulations over wet options because in my opinion, wetter mascaras tend to easily result in clumping. Of course there will be people out there who like the clumping effect and I used not to mind it that much but I am now a greater fan of very well-defined lashes. I am not super particular when it comes to mascaras (or any cosmetics actually) but I do expect the basics to exist. I want a mascara that can simultaneously lengthen and volumise, the effects do not have to be extreme but visible at least, and most crucially, it must be able to hold up my lashes. No, I do not ask for a super strong mascara that can hold a powerful curl but it must not droop my lashes due to heaviness. Most mascaras have worked well on me. Take note that my natural lashes are relatively long and thick on their own and although they are not very curled, they do not stick straight or droop like most Asian lashes. Maybelline XXL Mascara used to be my absolute favourite, I even recommended it to my mother who loved it as well. I do not think Singapore retails this anymore which is quite tragic. Clinique High Impact Mascara was a freebie I scored from a Clinique counter while purchasing some skincare products and although it was quite alright, I do not think I will re-purchase. It was nothing superb but was pretty nice overall. I was mindblown by RMK Extra Deep W Mascara because of the wonderful lengthening and volumising effects but the formulation does weigh down my lashes a little and therefore result in tiny smudging. Apart from this negativity, the expensive price is also too finances-damaging to consider a re-purchase. My current favourite is Fairy Drops Mascara, a japanese drugstore mascara that has received numerous raves especially from YouTube beauty guru, frmheadtotoe. Click on her link to arrive at the video where she compares the Fairy Drops Original Mascara and Fairy Drops Scandal Queen Mascara. Fairy Drops Mascara lengthens, volumises and holds a curl splendidly. However, I do use it hand-in-hand with my Kate Mascara Base which is, I find, the best mascara base that everybody should invest in. Chanel Inimitable Mascara is also quite a praise-worthy product but I will rather spend on Fairy Drops than splurge on Chanel, considering and comparing the application results. I have a friend who swears by Chanel's mascaras though. My next mascara to try is the Dolly Wink Volume Mascara which I recently bought. I am quite excited to give it a go because japanese mascaras typically do not disappoint and Dolly Wink is a truly hyped-up brand. I am also looking to lay my hands on these mascaras:

Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
Maybelline Full N Soft Mascara
Maybelline The Falsies Mascara
Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara
Rimmel Glam Eyes Mascara

REVIEW: Eau Thermale Avene

Trying out a new brand of facial spray after Shu Uemura, Vichy and Evian. I have completely used up my Evian spray and two cans of Vichy, I am currently left with half a bottle of Shu Uemura's. I must say I really like Avene Eau Thermale because the mist is extremely fine and it does contain soothing properties which claim to eliminate redness and curb skin sensitivity. I can testify that the product indeed calms my face and I really enjoy utilising it. It has got to be my favourite facial mist thus far!

REVIEW: Carmex Lip Balm

I LOVE this lip balm! :) I prefer mint and menthol flavours over fruity or floral options and this particular lip balm is just minty enough for my immense liking. It is a refreshing switch from the other flavoured lip balms I currently own. The product leaves a cooling sensation on the lips post-application and the jelly texture ensures greater moisturisation than "solid" lip balms in twist-up packagings. However, Carmex is not readily available in Singapore, at least not to my knowlegdge.

current favourite SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER

Current Favourite Shampoo: Essential Nuance Airy Shampoo

I have used numerous shampoos in my life, seeing how my Mother switches around different brands on a regular basis. I have tried shampoos from high-end lines to salon-recommended ones to drugstore options but my preferred choice to date has got to be Essential Nuance Airy Shampoo. I like Asian brands of shampoos more because they tend to be less heavy-duty than Western counterparts. As such, Asian shampoos allow users' hair to feel more lightweight and bouncy instead of being weighed down and greasy. Japanese shampoos are, in my opinion, the best. I like Essential's Nuance Airy line more than the Rich Premier alternative because the latter seems too "heavy" for me, I prefer to maintain volume and bounce in my mane and the former seems more capable of attaining these attributes. However, I do use Essential Rich Premier Hair Mask as a weekly treat. I heard more good reviews about the Rich Premier hair mask and decided that occasional extra moisturisation will be perfect for my locks. I do not recommend Essential's conditioners though, not because they are lousy or ineffective, in fact they do a pretty decent job, but the sickeningly sweet scent could be too much to bear. I, for one, am too turned off by the candy-like smell to consider re-purchasing the conditioner.

Current Favourite Conditioner: Shiseido Tsubaki Damage Care Conditioner

As I only apply conditioner to the ends of my hair and avoid the roots at all costs to prevent oiliness and greasiness, I find that a conditoner catered to repair is a better choice. As the ends of our hair are easily damaged, it makes sense, at least to me, to use a conditioner specially meant for damage care. I like Shiseido Tsubaki Damage Care Conditioner especially because of the earthly scent that the product emits. It is such a refreshing change from the sweet smell of my Essential shampoo. Do take note that Shiseido Tsubaki's hair products are sold in drugstores but they are considerably more expensive than other brands. Hence, I am more reluctant to re-purchase Shiseido Tsubaki's shampoos, although I do enjoy using that a lot, for Essential serves me equally well in this aspect. I am still scouting for a HG conditioner in the market, simply since I personally do not find the hype of Shiseido Tsubaki worth forking out additional cash for.

REVIEW: La Maxima Lip Balm

I am in love with this lip balm! It may feel too thick for some's preference but it works excellently in moisturising dry and/or cracked lips. However, I am unsure as to where anyone can lay their hands on this product because I do have a few tubs of these free from Turkish Airlines.

Hair Dye

L'Oreal Paris Feria 3D Color (Framboise)

Schwarzkopf Palette Deluxe Intensive Caring Colour (Aubergine)

L'Oreal Paris Feria 3D Color - This is my current hair colour, perhaps lighter (more golden tone) because I did dye my mane countless times before finally settling on this shade for the longest while.

Schwarzkopf Palette Deluxe Intensive Caring Colour - This is a picture taken of the packaging on the Schwarzkopf's hair dye and I cannot wait to switch up my hair colour.

Sally Hansen nail polish removers

This is the nail polish remover that I am going to use next. I have already tried the other two options from the Sally Hansen brand and they are pictured below.

beauty purchases

Marks & Spencer Coconut Milk Hand & Nail Cream

I was scouting for a new hand cream in the market and although I was initially pretty set on buying from The Body Shop, I later chanced upon the wide array of Marks&Spencer's beauty products and immediately fell in love with the scent of this particular Coconut Milk Hand & Nail Cream. My very first hand cream was also from Marks&Spencer and it worked splendidly in moisturising and nourishing my hands and cuticles so I was keen on re-purchasing from this line. Although I am admittedly a huge fan of coconut scents, there were a few other scents that captured my attention and I cannot wait to buy them too!

Sexy Look Hello Kitty Hyaluronic Acid Whitening & Moisturising Masks

I got these 2 boxes for a super good deal, they were buy-1-get-1-free during Watsons' Members Sale! I have a whole pile of new sheet masks at home waiting to be used but I just could not resist securing this purchase. What can I say, I am a huge sucker for packaging, especially when it comes to Hello Kitty anything.

Dolly Wink Volume Mascara + Liquid Eye Liner

The eye liner came as a freebie and this worthwhile package is a limited edition one, so I suggest everyone who is looking to try out both Dolly Wink products to hurry check out this awesome deal.

Veet In Shower Hair Removal Cream

I used to use the pink version (normal skin) but recently decided to switch to the green version (dry skin) because I was running out of the previous one and wanted to try something new. This works so much better for me and I am glad I took the plunge.
